Cannabinoids have the potential to treat skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, acne. I have clients, colleagues, and friends who have been taking cannabinoids in various forms for psoriasis, Crohn's disease, anxiety, sleeplessness, chronic pain, and seizures related to autism.
Everyone of them has reported positive results. Why?
As research recently found, the endocannabinoid systems scope stretches from your brain, to your heart, to your entire immune system. In fact, this newly discovered system serves as the “connector” between ALL of your body’s physiological systems.
It seems to contribute to the control of cells' balance, proliferation (this is particularly important in terms of psoriasis and acne), differentiation, tolerance and cell death. In other words, it plays a major role in regulating cell life – including skin cells.
With psoriasis, skin cells are replaced approximately every 3-5 days (although if you ask someone with this skin condition, they will tell you that its even quicker than that!) rather than the normal 30 days. Psoriasis is considered to be an autoimmune and genetic disorder triggered by emotional and environmental factors.
What's exciting is that cannabinoids have shown to act both as immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory agents in skin disorders. Both the research and client experiences have been proving that CBD and THC oils, creams, and salves can reduce inflammation and slows down skin cells growth.
Additionally, it has little to no adverse effects - making it an ideal form of therapy for the skin!
